Baton Rouge Drivers: Downtown Parking Gets High-Tech Upgrade with App and Kiosks

Updated: Apr 15

BATON ROUGE, La.— Park smarter, not harder! The City of Baton Rouge is revamping its downtown parking system with a high-tech makeover launching on April 29th. This exciting initiative promises a smoother experience for drivers and a boost for local businesses.

Gone are the days of hunting for quarters and fumbling with outdated meters. The new system features a network of 100 user-friendly kiosks scattered throughout downtown. These kiosks, along with the Flowbird app, allow drivers to pay for parking with a tap or swipe – no more digging for change!

“This is all about making parking downtown easier and more convenient,” said City-Parish spokesperson Mark Armstrong.

The system also promotes efficient parking space usage. On-street parking will be capped at two hours, ensuring a steady turnover that benefits local businesses. Drivers can choose their parking duration through the app, eliminating the worry of exceeding the time limit.

This project marks the culmination of a decade-long effort to modernize Baton Rouge's parking infrastructure. The city partnered with Flowbird Group to create a system that caters to the needs of a growing downtown.

Here's what you need to know:

  • The new system applies to on-street parking only. Surface lots and garages are privately owned and have their payment structures.

  • Need a quick weekend errand? Most on-street parking is free after 6:00 pm weekdays and all day on weekends.

  • Looking for extended parking? The LaSalle Garage remains open 24/7, and some garages offer special event parking.

City officials emphasize that the goal isn't just about convenience – it's about creating a thriving downtown environment. Easier parking access translates to more customers for local businesses.

So, Baton Rouge drivers, get ready to ditch the coin scramble and embrace a smarter parking experience!
