Free Public Health Screenings Event Set to Benefit Baker Community

Payne BR Weekly Press Newspaper Baker, Louisiana, — The Mwalimu Institute, in collaboration with Councilman Charles Vincent and Southern University's School of Nursing, is proud to announce a special health screening event at the Baker Branch Library on Friday, September 8, 2023, from 12 pm to 4 pm.


This event is a testament to the commitment of Councilman Charles Vincent and the Southern University School of Nursing to the well-being of the Baker community. The Jag Mobile, staffed by dedicated nursing students from Southern University, will provide an array of health screenings to library patrons at no charge. These screenings will include body mass index (BMI), blood pressure, glucose, and cholesterol checks, ensuring that individuals have access to vital health information.

Additionally, the AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) will be present to offer HIV, Syphilis, and Hepatitis C testing free of charge to the general public, enhancing the event's comprehensive approach to healthcare accessibility.


Councilman Charles Vincent, Ph., the president of The Mwalimu Institute and District One representative on the Baker City Council, expressed his enthusiasm for the event. "Community health reflects our collective well-being," he stated. "Together, we can build a healthier, stronger Baker. Let's make good health a shared priority."


The Baker Branch Library, located at 3501 Groom Road, Baker, LA 70714, will host this event.
