Mayor Broome Unveils American Flag Retirement Program in Baton Rouge


Baton Rouge, Louisiana — In a move that underscores a commitment to honoring the United States flag, Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome has announced the establishment of American Flag Retirement Box Locations throughout Baton Rouge and East Baton Rouge Parish. These specially designated boxes offer the community a convenient and respectful way to retire worn American Flags in accordance with the United States Flag Code. The Flag Retirement Boxes can be found at participating library branches across the area, simplifying the process for residents to properly dispose of their retired Flags. This initiative was set in motion through a resolution by Metropolitan Councilwoman Denise Amoroso and the dedicated efforts of the Mayor's Advisory Council on Veterans Affairs. Their aim is to uphold the traditions and respect associated with the American flag, ensuring that all flags receive a dignified retirement.
