Join the Celebration of Hip Hop's 50th Anniversary
with Poetry, Art, and Music in Baton Rouge.
BATON ROUGE, LA - Poetry, paint, and melody converge in a celebration of Hip Hop’s 50th Anniversary at THE CORNER Sunday Showcase, Verses&Brushstrokes, Sept. 3 from 3-5 p.m. at the Cary Saurage Community Arts Center. Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge artist-in-residence Mike Weary, who offers his unique perspective through a live painting demonstration, headlines the afternoon.
Joining him are spoken word artists Rayne Myers and Miya Allen, who deliver powerful verses that echo the emotions woven into Weary's artwork, and DJ KAYSKILLZ, known for crafting seamless soundscapes that complement and enhance the visual and poetic elements.
“Mike Weary's visual storytelling, combined with the evocative power of poetry and melody, creates an experience that is both transformative and enriching," said Troy Roberson Lee, executive director of Creatives for the Culture, producer of THE CORNER in partnership with the Arts Council. “Together, these artists will immerse the audience in a world of creativity and expression that resonates with the soul.”
As an independent filmmaker and producer, Lee knows firsthand Black creatives' struggles when seeking appropriate and affordable venues to unveil their creations. The collaboration with ACGBR seeks to address them by providing Black creatives an exceptional platform to showcase their talents.
THE CORNER takes place on the first Sunday of the month at the Cary Saurage Community Arts Center to provide a professional platform that bridges the gap between Black creatives’ artistry and public exposure.
